Miley Cyrus...need I say more?

I am just dumbfounded at how many HOURS of media coverage Miley Cyrus has gotten these past few days. Let's think about this. Miley Cyrus, Disney star, 15 years old, ONE sexy pic, HOURS AND HOURS of media coverage. We're in the middle of a freaken war and presidential debates and Miley Cyrus completely covered in a sheet is what's consuming (and distracting) the publics thoughts of what's truly important enough to be on the news. What disgusts me even more is that according to a poll on dotspotter.com, 53% (fifty freaking three percent!) of people consider this photo to be "child pornography" while the other 47% consider the photo to be art. Now, I am not about to post a photo of REAL child porn on here to prove my point on whether the photo is porn or art, but I think that just a tad bit of common sense proves my point that, sorry perverts, it's art. Harmless art at that. Britney Spears was 16 when she did "Baby One More Time" and it was not seen as porn or demoralizing. She actually got the reputation of the "girl next door" right after that. Not that I am dissing "Baby One More Time", but let's look at that video and then take a good and hard look at the cover of Vanity Fair...point taken.

Miley's apology was melancholy disturbing as well. "I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be 'artistic' and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed". Embarrassed? Whatever. She is owned and under contract with Disney, of course they would make her say that. Yes, let's make it seem like it was not her decision whatsoever. Let's make it look that since she is just 15 years old (what I was only 4 years ago) she cannot make real decisions for herself. She was encouraged by adults and no one stopped her. Gee, I wonder why. Maybe it's because she wasn't doing anything wrong. Now there's an idea! She is a person. I was just 15 four Christmas's ago! And I can recall still having just as much a mind of my own as I do now. Stop blaming others for HER decision. She made the choice to do it and it turned out great. (Child pornography, lol)

The real point I am trying to make here is that it's depressing at how this ONE picture is such a BAD thing to American's. Really. Look at it. Is it THAT bad? Is it really SUCH a big deal? Is it really encouraging Hannah Montana fans all over the country (and I say country instead of world because I know the world knows better) to become sex addicts? It's art. Just art. Even if it was all about sex, so what? Sexing up girls is nothing new in the first place. In western art most of the women portrayed semi-clad or totally nude are children. When Lucian Freud paints girl children, nobody cares. Botticelli paints the yet-to-be-enjoyed goddess of love emerging from the sea and people come from all over the world to gape at her. The Greeks and Romans liked their goddesses meaty- our preferred Venuses are children. Hardy perennials such as Diane de Poitiers held their sway as long as they did because their bodies never matured. Kate Moss has been able to earn millions only as long as she could continue to project the body image of a 13-year-old.

So it's an artsy sexy photo of a 15 year old girl....so what? Let's take all the extreme ideas of child pornography and the idea that a 15 year old girl cannot take full credit for her own decisions- lock it up in a nice little safe and throw it onto the unknown planet of Nibiru where in 2012 it will come back to haunt those who believed and encouraged them in the first place.
